I Walked For Miles

about

I wrote this song about the time my car broke down on a remote Northern Ontario highway. I did use some artistic license just to make it a bit more interesting.

lyrics

Gave up the ghost on 129
It wasn’t looking good as I made that climb
In the middle of the wild
And two lane black top
Not much else, no one would stop

I walked for miles, following the tracks
The sun beat down and burned my back
I walked for miles on a lonely road
Hoping to find salvation that ain’t borrowed

A desert filled with trees and nothing to eat
I thought I’d hitch a ride and rest my feet
My lonely thumb felt good in the open air
It didn’t do no good
Passed by me without care

I walked for miles, following the tracks
The sun beat down and burned my back
I walked for miles on a lonely road
Hoping to find salvation that ain’t borrowed

Then the darkness came
The moon shone so bright
Still without wheels I journeyed through the night
Then I heard a diesel
Sounding like a train
Picked me up and I was on the road again

The diesel smelled like roses
As he put the hammer down
I thanked him very much and offered to buy a round
No need he said
Then we pulled into town
Just pour one out for me
I’m off to the next town

I walked for miles, following the tracks
The sun beat down and burned my back
I walked for miles on a lonely road
Hoping to find salvation that ain’t borrowed
